FUTURISM AND PRIMITIVISM:

THE UNRELEASED COLLABORATION BETWEEN CARLOS ALONSO AND BLIXA BARGELD

One of them became a pioneer of electronic music in his country by incorporating computers into his instrumental collection; the other played through rubble, hitting grocery carts with drills and primitive fury.

What would a collaboration between two opposite poles of the avant-garde sound like?


Through his podcast, Dejaré esto por aquí, Hernán Muleiro (who has written for Vice, Bandcamp, Depósito Sonoro, among others) is dedicated to publishing unreleased songs and albums from different fields of music. In previous episodes, Muleiro has featured live performances by Can, Charles Mingus, and even RZA, which were not in the annals of history.

For his most recent broadcast, he will share a collaboration between german and argentinian musicians Blixa Bargeld and Carlos Alonso, as well as a rehearsal by Os Mutantes, a recorded and restored of a Sonic Youth early live appearance, and demos by the ever-elusive Roky Erickson.

Carlos Alonso

Guitarist and electronics teacher; experimenter and commander of the UnoxUno project since the mid-80s, Carlos Alonso represents, in a very concrete way, the ideal of being able to carry out significant musical work without taking any shortcuts. Under that lack of restrictions, he has put together a varied discography, in which his own musical language is his only compass; although in his debut album El Infinito Cercano (1986, Uncertain Catalog) the spirit of the dark-alfonsinist era can be heard.



Blixa Bargeld

Key member in the foundation of Einstürzende Neubauten, a band considered as one of the early pioneers of industrial music. From their first album, Kollaps (1981), and onwards, they have lived up to the meaning behind the group's name: new buildings that collapse by constantly reinventing themselves without ever looking back.



Even before listening to this recording, no one would be able to deny that the meeting between Carlos and Blixa, at UnoxUno's studio in San Miguel, represented the union of two very idiosyncratic individuals who are more than capable of expressing their various concerns through music.

In 1995, when this musical encounter took place, Bargeld was in Buenos Aires filling the role as a guitarist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
